A Shipping container was craned into the common space of Spoke Apartments prior to drying the building in. It was modified in place and serves as a lounge and coffee bar while helping to tie the inside space to the outside space anchoring the apartment living in its physical context within the city on the combined CSX/MARTA heavy rail line. The final phase of Edgewood Park, Quill Apartments, shows the result of close and careful collaboration on the street section and building form. Note the building fronting the street, but with ample planting strip, sidewalk and furniture strip, while on street public parking seamlessly integrates and serves to narrow the existing right of way to deliver the traffic calming desired. The building form steps back above the third story in order to offer a respectful transitional height plane to the adjacent single-family homes, also a request of the neighborhood. The tight urban space between the shared parking structure for MARTA patrons, apartment residents, office workers and retail customers is enhanced as a tight urban dog park. This activates what could have felt like an unsafe place, while helping to preserve the natural greenspace at the center of Edgewood Park for community activities.
