Gensler’s reimagined lobby creates a cathedral-like experience, accented by a 70-foot ceiling and an enormous glass arch to welcome visitors and tenants. The arched picture-window was added to the back of the lobby, visually connecting the public garden to pedestrians on Madison Avenue. Credit: Fred Charles

The soaring multi-story arched-glass window floods the lobby’s centerpiece art installation – Alicja Kwade’s “Solid Sky” – with light. The 24-ton sphere is suspended by 10 stainless steel chains from the ceiling, dangling just 12 feet above the lobby’s floor and positioned to mirror the Earth’s 23.5-degree axial tilt. The Grand Hall is framed by the building’s original oculus window and Dorothea Rockburne’s 30’x30’ murals that were commissioned for the building in 1993. A 25-foot-wide brass and matte opal glass chandelier was hand-crafted for the space, and reflects themes of celestial movement, balancing above a communal dining, work and lounge area. In partnership with The Olayan Group, luxury publisher Assouline curated a library as an exclusive amenity for tenants of the landmark office tower. The book selections speak to the building’s core identity, including nature, art and culture, architecture, entrepreneurship, women in art, history and sustainability. Credit: Nikolas Koenig
