State/Province: Aarhus
Country: Denmark

Rune Kilden, CEO, Kilden & Mortensen:
Our ambition to develop Bassin 7 was to create a new destination in Aarhus with high values of community, activity, and urban life. The core of the neighborhood is to strengthen the quality of life for both residents and visitors, and establish a diverse neighborhood, that invites and offers multiple activities.

We believe, the key of a great neighborhood is to create valuable spaces between the buildings. By prioritizing urban spaces over buildings in Bassin 7, we have experienced an increased interest from potential residents. They are drawn to live in a neighborhood that will contribute to their wellbeing by having great surroundings they can engage with every day. Therefore, our experience is that investments in urban spaces will secure a high return.

Today, the harbor is an extremely attractive urban space in Aarhus. Previously, the harbor was experienced as an abandoned, isolated, and industrial place without public activity. When we engaged in the project to develop the harbor, we wanted to transform the perception of the harbor into a lively neighborhood and make the waterfront accessible to the public. In 2010, we created a temporarily bar, The Beach Bar. The intention was to create awareness of the harbor, invite people to experience the site and extend the life of the city. Luckily it worked. Many visitors came engaging in multiple activities. Today, Bassin 7 has become an inviting, diverse neighborhood with residential, cultural institutions, sport activities, and urban spaces that give a unique destination by the waterfront in Aarhus. We are extremely excited to see the full potential of the urban space, when all residential buildings and the Hotel and Conference Center are complete in the upcoming years!
